AILINA TIPS
TO LOSE FAT, LEARN TO
MANAGE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR!
The way to lose fat and keep it off is to manage your
blood sugar. I’m not talking about fasting to lower the
blood sugar that doctors test you for, but lowering blood
sugar levels one to two hours after eating a meal. The
secret is to speed up fat loss and to do that, you need to
slow down the sugar. After a meal, blood sugar levels rise
and the pancreas produces insulin, which delivers glucose,
or blood sugar, to the muscle cells. As blood sugar levels
drop, insulin levels drop, and the pancreas produces
hormones called glucagons. At the same time, nutrients
stored in fat cells are released to the blood and used for
energy.
Here’s why it’s so important to manage the rise and fall
of blood sugar: If blood sugar levels are too high,
insulin feeds the muscle cells and deposits excess sugar
into your fat cells. If blood sugar levels fall too low,
your muscle cells are underfed. What you want is a slow
rise in the in blood sugar. This provides good nutrition
to the muscles. A slow drop in levels allows glucagons to
take fat from the fat cells.
Insulin resistance occurs when receptors on the muscle
cell membranes stop accepting insulin and thus glucose is
not delivered into the cell. It’s as if the receptors were
doors to the cell and the insulin is the key that unlocks
the doors, allowing glucose to enter. While
you can be genetically predisposed to becoming insulin
resistant, more commonly it is your lifestyle that
interferes with the door-opening that insulin does.
Insulin resistance causes some doors to remain closed and
the blood sugar has no place to go but to remain in the
blood or enter the fat cells. Proper nutrition and regular
exercise can prevent or reverse insulin resistance.
